The duration of hospitalization for benign ovarian tumors is roughly 7-10 days, including 1-2 days for preoperative preparation, the operative day, and postoperative recovery. There are two common surgical procedures for benign ovarian tumors: 1) conventional open surgery, in which a longitudinal incision is made in the abdomen to complete the operation; 2) minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, which is now commonly used, in which there is no large incision in the abdomen, but only 2-3 small incisions. Laparoscopic surgery has less damage and faster recovery for patients than open surgery. On the one hand, the abdominal incisions are smaller and there is no need to remove stitches. On the other hand, the intestine is not directly exposed to air, which reduces the occurrence of postoperative intestinal adhesions. In addition, laparoscopic surgery can be discharged from the hospital 2-3 days earlier than open surgery.
