There are no proprietary Chinese medicines specifically for treating cough in the elderly. When cough occurs in the elderly, it needs to be analyzed and judged by identifying the symptoms, and then given symptomatic medication. Chinese patent medicines for cough include San’ao Tablets, Er Chen Concentrated Pills, and Snake Gallbladder and Chuanbei Liquid. 1. San’ao Tablet is composed of licorice, ephedra, almond and ginger. It has the efficacy of promoting the lungs and relieving epidemiology, and is used for the evidence of wind-cold attacking the lungs, which is characterized by heavy coughing, coughing with a lot of sputum, and white sputum with clear and thin sputum; and for acute bronchitis with the above symptoms.
