SLE is an autoimmune disease that involves multiple systems throughout the body and is associated with genetics, environmental factors, estrogen and other factors. Most of the patients with SLE will have a rash, which is characterized by erythema on the bridge of the nose and bilateral zygomatic and cheeks in a butterfly-shaped distribution, with no obvious itching; other skin and mucosal damages can be manifested as peri-nail erythema, fingertip ischemia, and oral ulcers. In addition to skin and mucous membrane damage, systemic symptoms such as fever, malaise, myalgia, loss of appetite, etc. can also occur in SLE, which can be complicated by polyarthralgias, lupus nephritis, interstitial lung disease, lupus encephalopathy and so on, when involving other systemic damages.
