How long can you live on dialysis?

The length of life on dialysis cannot be generalized, ranging from a few years to several decades, depending on the patient’s personal constitution, condition, treatment effect and other factors. In case of end-stage renal disease or acute drug intoxication, toxins and metabolic waste are difficult to be excreted, dialysis treatment is needed for kidney replacement therapy, and the earlier the dialysis treatment, the less damage it will do to the body. The life expectancy of post-dialysis patients varies from person to person. If the patient is in very poor health, has diabetes and cardiovascular disease combined at the beginning of dialysis, and the treatment is not timely enough, the survival life expectancy may be only a few years or even shorter. In addition, the life expectancy of a patient after dialysis is also related to the cause of his or her illness and the financial status of his or her family, and in general, patients on dialysis today can continue to live for decades. It is recommended that during dialysis, patients follow the instructions of a medical professional, take their medication regularly, control their water intake, and ensure adequate nutrition.
