There are many ways to stop bleeding, including acupressure, elevation of the affected limb, pressure bandage, surgical instruments, traditional Chinese medicine and the use of tourniquet. Tourniquet is mainly used for arterial bleeding, such as large amount of bleeding, bleeding dangerous to use tourniquet, not any bleeding can use tourniquet. Usually, tourniquets are only used for bleeding from limbs, such as the upper and lower limbs. If bleeding from the upper limbs, a tourniquet can be applied to the upper middle third of the upper arm, the lower edge of the deltoid muscle, or near the armpit to stop the bleeding by compressing the brachial artery.
