Lesion characteristics of glaucoma

Some experts have taken to calling glaucoma a “lifelong disease”, meaning that once you have it, you need to keep treating it for the rest of your life. I am not yet fully comfortable with this term, but I can’t think of a particularly good way to describe it. Glaucoma does require a long period of follow-up and treatment, otherwise the visual function will deteriorate. The reasons are as follows: first, there is no way to repair the pathological damage caused by glaucoma; second, there is no permanent solution to all treatments for glaucoma, whether it is medication, laser or surgical treatment, so patients need to be followed up for a long time under the guidance of a doctor to constantly monitor the changes in intraocular pressure to avoid deterioration of visual function and affect the patient’s quality of life. Patients who are detected early can achieve good results under the treatment of professional doctors.
