Ulcerative colitis can be treated with biologics, which can be used as an initial treatment for moderate to severe ulcerative colitis, or in the transition phase from glucocorticoids. For ulcerative colitis, the commonly used medical treatment modalities in clinical practice are aminosalicylic acid preparations such as mesalazine, glucocorticosteroids such as budesonide, immunosuppressants such as azathioprine, and biologics such as infliximab. Among them, biologics treatment can improve the disease remission rate of ulcerative colitis and can reduce the hospitalization and surgery rate of ulcerative colitis patients. However, the current clinical application of biologics has limitations, biologics efficacy is certain, but has the controversy of safety, and the price is more expensive, which will increase the economic burden. Therefore, patients with ulcerative colitis are advised to apply biologics under the guidance of professional physicians according to their conditions and avoid self-medication.
