Reference range for normal PCT values

PCT, or procalcitoninogen, should have a normal value of 0 to 0.5 ng/ml.
Calcitoninogen is a protein whose elevated levels are commonly seen in severe bacterial, fungal, and parasitic infections, as well as sepsis, and multi-organ failure.
When the PCT value is greater than 0.5ng/ml, it is mildly elevated, suggesting that a bacterial infection may be present in the body. If the PCT value is greater than 2ng/ml, it is moderately elevated, and severe infection or sepsis may exist in the body. If the PCT value is greater than 10ng/ml, it is significantly elevated, usually after severe trauma or major surgery, and may also indicate the presence of septic shock.
PCT is an important clinical indicator for diagnosing the severity of inflammation or infection. By closely monitoring the value, you can effectively understand the development trend of the disease and formulate a treatment plan according to the condition.
