How to treat cystine stones

Cystine stones are a relatively common type of urinary tract and can be treated with lithotripsy in 30-40% of patients. It is important to keep drinking enough water, >2000ml per day to promote the discharge and dissolution of cystine stones. Also cystine stones are unstable in alkaline environment, so you can take some oral potassium hydrogen citrate to maintain the pH of urine at about 7.0, but not too alkaline, otherwise it will easily lead to the formation of other stones. If the diameter of cystine stone is more than 1cm, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy can be performed to crush the stone to a certain range and then perform drug lithotripsy, which will be more effective. If the stone is very large it can be treated with percutaneous nephropuncture. During the treatment, it can also be treated with a nephrostomy tube, infusion of sodium bicarbonate or other drugs to alkalize the local environment and dissolve the cystine. If the patient has some damage to the kidney function, it should be treated the same as any other stone treatment, and timely surgery to release the obstruction can save the damage to the kidney function.
