Gui Spleen Tang is composed of Atractylodes Macrocephala, Radix Panax Ginseng, Radix Astragali, Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae Praeparatae, Poria, Radix et Rhizoma Poriae, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Longan Flesh, Jujubae, Jujubae Renae Souris and Farfarbiae, Mullein, and Ginger which are used in tranquilizing and regulating the spirit and vital energy, thus it has the efficacy of replenishing the vital energy and nourishing blood, invigorating spleen and nourishing the heart (strengthening the spleen and stomach, replenishing the heart and spirit), and tranquillizing the mind and assisting sleep.
The Ten Perfections Soup is based on the Eight Treasures Soup with the addition of Astragalus and Cinnamon, which increases the effect of warming and nourishing Yang Qi, making the effect of tonifying Qi and nourishing Blood more prominent.
It should be noted that Bazhen Tang, Gui Spleen Tang and Shiquan Daxin Tang should not be taken when one has a cold or fever, nor should they be combined with Chinese herbs containing wulingzhi and quatu to avoid toxic side effects.
