Self-treatment to eliminate morning stiffness in joints

  Morning stiffness is not only a common joint manifestation in patients with rheumatic diseases, but can also occur in the elderly, especially in those with bone and joint pain. In China since ancient times, the custom of using lit mugwort leaves to fumigate houses during the Dragon Boat Festival to eliminate cold and dampness, the ancients also used mugwort leaves as a common medicine for health care, such as using mugwort leaves to make mugwort columns on acupuncture points for hot moxibustion treatment, or mugwort leaves to make wine for drinking. Mugwort is pungent, bitter, warm, and belongs to the liver, spleen, and kidney meridians, and has a very good effect of dispersing cold and relieving pain, dispelling wind and removing dampness. For patients with rheumatic joint diseases, or elderly people with morning stiffness of joints, it can be considered as an aggravating and constant product.  For example, for patients with morning stiffness in lower limb joints such as knees and feet, the treatment method of decocting mugwort leaves and bathing the feet can be used, while for patients with morning stiffness in spinal joints such as the neck and lumbar spine, mugwort leaves can be made into a mugwort pillar and placed on the spinal points of the spinal veins to ginger slices, and the lit mugwort pillar can be placed on the ginger slices to perform local hot moxibustion treatment. It can not only effectively eliminate morning stiffness of joints, but also promote local blood circulation in joints, dispel cold and dampness, delay joint degeneration, and prevent the occurrence of rheumatic diseases. At the same time, mugwort can also be used in combination with traditional Chinese medicine such as Eucommia and Sambucus to make medicinal wine, or quoted, or used externally, which can also play a role in dispersing cold and dispelling dampness, soothing the meridians and activating the channels.
