Racket placenta is an abnormal type of placenta in which the umbilical cord is attached to the edge of the placenta and the entire placenta resembles a badminton racket. Normally, the umbilical cord is attached near the center of the fetal side of the placenta. If it is attached to the edge of the placenta, it is called a racquetball placenta. Normally, it does not affect the growth and development of the fetus much. However, in a few cases, it may affect the blood and oxygen supply of the fetus, causing chronic intrauterine hypoxia and abnormalities such as intrauterine growth retardation. Pregnant women with bulbous placenta do not need to be overly anxious and have regular follow-up ultrasound and fetal heartbeat monitoring during pregnancy. If fetal movement is good, wait for delivery. If the fetal heart rate is abnormal or the fetal movement decreases significantly, consult a doctor for a treatment plan.
