The Pavlik sling is a special sling that keeps the hip joint in flexion, retains the inversion, abducts the joint by gravity, and progressively resets itself. After 1 week of wearing, X-ray or ultrasound shows the reset, which indicates success. Average treatment time: 1, less than 1 month: constraint 3.6 months; 2, 1 – 3 months: constraint 7 months; 3 , 3 – 6 months: constraint 9.3 months. When the clinical and X-ray films no longer show subluxation and lateral displacement, the retractor can be gradually released. Treatment success rate: 90.5% for neonates; 82.6-90% for 1–5 months; 65% for >6 months. The morphological and clinical recovery of the hip joint in children successfully treated with Pavlik appliance is almost similar to that of normal children. Therefore, screening of newborns for DDH is crucial.
