It is taken by decoction with water. Chai Hu Shuo Liver Essence is a Chinese herbal formula composed of Chen Pi, Chai Hu, Chuan Xiong, Citrus aurantium, Paeonia lactiflora, Fragrance and Glycyrrhiza glabra. This drug has the efficacy of dispelling the liver and relieving depression, promoting qi circulation and relieving pain, and is used to treat the syndrome of liver qi stagnation (the lack of smooth flow of qi in the liver), which is characterized by pain in the hypochondrium and ribs, tightness in the chest with a liking to taiyi (making a long pouting or a short sighing sound), depression, hiccups, and distension of the epigastric region (abdomen).
