Chinese medicine can recognize and treat epilepsy. Epilepsy is called epilepsy in Chinese medicine, which is divided into seizure period and resting period, and medication should be used according to different periods and types of evidence. 1. Seizure (1) Yang epilepsy: manifested by sudden fainting, unconsciousness, flushed face, upward gaze, clenched teeth, twitching of limbs, irritability, thirst, constipation, red tongue, yellowish greasy moss, slippery pulse, and treated with Huanglian Xieyue Tang combined with Defined Epilepsy Pill with additions and subtractions. (2) Yin-eclampsia: manifested by sudden unconsciousness, cold hands and feet, eyes half-open and half-closed, dark color, fatigue (mental exhaustion and physical weakness), pale tongue, white greasy moss, and sluggish pulse; add and subtract Wusheng Drink and Er Chen Tang. 2. Resting phase (1) Liver fire and phlegm-heat: manifested as fainting and convulsions during seizures, irritability, insomnia, cough and phlegm, constipation, red tongue, yellowish greasy moss, slippery pulse, add and subtract Gentian Diarrhea and Liver Soup combined with Phlegm Cleansing Soup. (2) Blood stasis blocking the cerebral channels: manifested as dizziness and headache with prolonged duration and fixed pain, bruises on the face, mouth and lips, dark red tongue with petechiae, thin white moss and astringent pulse, add subtractions with Tongjiao and Blood Activation Tang. (3) Yin deficiency of the liver and kidney (insufficient yin fluid in the liver and kidney): manifested by dark complexion, dizziness, dryness of the eyes, forgetfulness and insomnia, lumbar and knee soreness (a feeling of soreness and weakness in the lumbar and knee regions), red tongue, little moss, and treatment with Dai Tonic Yuan Decoction with additional subtractions. If suffering from epilepsy, its treatment should consult the clinician and follow the doctor’s prescription.
