Under normal circumstances, at 26 weeks of pregnancy, fasting blood glucose should be below 5.1mmol/l, one hour after a meal should be below 10.0mmol/L, and two hours after a meal, should be below 8.5mmol/L. If the blood glucose value at any point is at or above the standard, the diagnosis of gestational diabetes is made.
If you have gestational diabetes, poor blood sugar control will have a greater impact on both mother and child. Strict diet control, proper exercise and monitoring of blood sugar changes are needed during pregnancy.
