Can I get a massage if I’m pregnant?

Massage during pregnancy helps to improve the comfort of the pregnant woman herself, which can help her to pass the whole pregnancy comfortably and is a good promotion for her. During pregnancy, the uterus gradually increases in size, and the sensitivity of the enlarged uterus to external forces increases. Therefore, during pregnancy, abdominal massage is not recommended. Constantly pressing and rubbing the abdomen to stimulate the uterus can trigger contractions early. When the uterine contractions gradually become regular and paroxysmal, then there is a risk of miscarriage and premature delivery. During pregnancy, in addition to the abdominal massage, pregnant women can do other parts of the massage. For example, foot massage can promote the blood circulation of pregnant women’s lower extremities and relieve their fatigue. Massage of both lower limbs is also highly advocated. As pregnancy progresses, the venous return in the pelvis of pregnant women is blocked, so it can lead to edema in both lower limbs of pregnant women and cause discomfort. Daily massage of both lower extremities can relieve the edema of both lower extremities, reduce the discomfort of pregnant women and promote venous return. In addition, massage of the upper limbs, neck, shoulders and back can also be performed. However, it is not recommended to take a strenuous massage. In summary, massage is possible during pregnancy, but avoid abdominal massage.
