What is the “scarring experiment”?

The famous scar experiment: what kind of inner world, there is what kind of external vision. American researchers have conducted an interesting psychological experiment called the “scar experiment”. They claimed to the participating volunteers that the experiment was designed to observe how people react to physically impaired strangers, especially those with facial scars. Each volunteer was placed in a small room without a mirror, and a professional makeup artist from Hollywood made a bloody, shocking scar on the left side of his or her face. After the volunteer was allowed to use a small mirror to see how the makeup would look, the mirror was taken away. The key was the final step, where the makeup artist said he needed to apply another layer of powder on the surface of the scar to prevent it from being accidentally wiped off. In fact, the make-up artist secretly wiped off the make-up with a paper towel. The volunteers, who knew nothing about this, were sent to the waiting rooms of various hospitals, where their task was to observe people’s reactions to their facial scars. When the allotted time came, the returning volunteers invariably recounted the same feelings – that people were ruder and less friendly than before, and always staring at their faces! But in reality, their faces were no different than usual, and nothing was different; the reason they came to that conclusion seems to be that their self-perceptions were wrongly influencing their judgment. This was a thought-provoking experiment. It turns out that how a person sees himself or herself inwardly is how he or she will be perceived in the outside world. At the same time, this experiment also validates a Western adage: “Others see you the way you see yourself.” Isn’t it? A calm person, feel more calm eyes; a person with low self-esteem, feel more discriminatory eyes; a kind person, feel more friendly eyes; a rebellious person, feel more critical eyes. It can be said that, what kind of inner world, there is what kind of external vision. In this way, if a person complains for a long time that his situation is cold, unfair, lack of sunlight, it means that the real problem is his own inner world, is his perception of self deviation. At this time, what needs to be changed is their own heart; and once the inner world is improved, the situation outside is bound to improve. After all, in this world, only you can decide how others see you. We often spend a lot of effort to understand others, to know others, but rarely spend energy to understand ourselves, to know themselves. We generally cannot see ourselves directly, but only through mirrors and photos. Similarly, we generally know ourselves through the eyes of others, each person’s eyes you are different, 100 people’s eyes there are 100 you, 1000 people’s eyes there are a thousand you, in the eyes of different people you are different, good, smart, hateful, stupid, loyal, hypocritical, betrayed, and the list goes on. So what is the real you? Where is the real you? The “Wound Experiment” clearly tells us the answer – inside. His world is still pure. Whether it is the pursuit of happiness, tranquility, security …… go within you to find it, where there are endless resources and energy. ”My dear, there is no one else out there but yourself”.
