Lipoic Acid Efficacy and Effects

Lipoic acid is mainly used to treat sensory abnormalities caused by diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Lipoic acid belongs to the western medicines, and the commonly used preparations include injections, capsules, tablets and so on. Lipoic acid is a B vitamin derivative, and relevant studies have found that lipoic acid can reduce lipid oxidation in nerve tissue, inhibit protein glycosylation, and inhibit aldose reductase, so it is clinically used for the treatment of sensory abnormalities caused by diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Adverse reactions will vary depending on the type of medication used for lipoic acid. Lipoic acid injection adverse reactions are head swelling and dyspnea may occur after intravenous drip too quickly; after intramuscular injection, it may cause hives or eczema, and may also cause systemic allergic reactions, severe shock. Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea may occur after oral administration of lipoic acid capsules or tablets. Lipoic acid is contraindicated in people who are allergic to the product.
