What are the common winter burns

In the severe winter season, many people begin to use hot water bags, soup totes, electric mattresses, etc. for heating. Recently, our burn and orthopedic department has treated many patients who were burned by these heating facilities, among which the elderly and frail people and infants are the most common, and we call these burns as low heat burns. These hypothermic burns often take months to heal and even require hospitalization for surgery. Since the burns are mostly on the foot, and the foot is long sagging, which affects the blood reflux, and the fresh blood supply with oxygen and antibacterial and nutrient components is insufficient, the local resistance decreases, and pathogens such as bacteria can easily grow and multiply here and cause secondary infection, and may even induce systemic infection. Therefore, the occurrence of low-heat burns should not be taken lightly, should promptly go to a specialist hospital. Prevention of low-heat burns to pay attention to the following points: 1, the correct use of hot water bags. First of all, do not use hot water bags that have been aging. Each time you fill the water, about 70% of the hot water can be installed, and should be driven out of the air inside the bag. After filling the water to check whether the lid is tightened. It is best not to put the hot water bag or electric heating cake all night in the nest, but should be covered with hot nest before going to bed, take out at bedtime. If placed in the nest, the hot water bag or electric cake should be wrapped in a thick towel outside. 2, the purchase of electric blankets to pay attention to product quality. Open before bedtime and close at bedtime. 3, diabetes or paraplegic patients should pay particular attention to the prevention of low-heat burns. Hot pot burns One situation is that when eating hot pot accidentally spills the hot pot, the boiling hot pot soup can cause burns. This kind of accident is more likely to happen when there is a small hot pot for one person. Children are very active and are the most likely to become injured. Another situation is to add fuel when the hot pot is finished in your own home and the flame is not completely extinguished, causing a large fire and resulting in burns. Or bring the power to boil water, and then go to do other things, resulting in a dry fondue pot burn, resulting in unimaginable consequences. So, when eating hot pot must watch out for children, adults should also pay attention to safety, never add fuel with fire, and unplug the power promptly after eating hot pot. Fireplace burns Some areas do not have a unified heating equipment, each family self-generated fireplace heating and cooking. When the fire is large, the fireplace walls and chimney can burn red, and if people accidentally come into contact with it, it will cause burns. Some families use a kang with a stove, and there are often accidents in which children fall into the stove and are burned when they climb from the kang to the pot. Some elderly people with diabetes, vasculitis or stroke sequelae have impaired peripheral circulation and impaired nerve function, and are insensitive to temperature changes and pain, so they do not notice the burns. What’s more, some elderly people are not able to save themselves after being burned, or they are burned because they lose consciousness for a long time until they are found by their family members. Special attention should be paid to these elderly people. It is best to set up a protective fence around the stove when using an iron stove, and a partition fence should be set up between the stove and the bed when using a kang with a stove. Improper use of liquefied gas Some liquefied gas cylinders are perforated or the hoses are aging, resulting in gas leaks, and a little spark, or even ringing the doorbell or making a phone call, can set off flammable gas. These burns are not only large and deep, but also often accompanied by organ damage, so there is a certain degree of difficulty in treatment. Therefore, the use of liquefied gas cylinders should be replaced once every 5 years, hoses and interfaces should be checked regularly, and you must remember to close the main valve after use to prevent liquefied gas leaks. If there has been an explosion and fire, do not panic and run around to avoid fueling the fire. Don’t shout, either, to avoid burning your respiratory tract. Do not drink a lot of water, as this can cause vomiting and respiratory asphyxiation due to stomach expansion. If you have been burned, do not apply toothpaste, soy sauce, egg white and kale oil to the trauma, but immediately flush the trauma with plenty of cold water and go to the hospital as soon as possible. Bathing burns When taking a shower, people tend to adjust the water temperature to a higher level. Sometimes the water temperature is not tested before bathing, and the sudden spray of hot water can cause burns to the bathers. Especially when parents give children a bath, if first pour hot water into the tub, and then go to get cold water to join, in the mother turned to get cold water, children see water in the basin, they may reach into the hands to play with water or jump into the basin, resulting in burns. Therefore, before giving children a bath, be sure to put cold water first, and then put hot water, so as to avoid pediatric burns. Firecracker injuries Although many large and medium-sized cities in China have issued an order banning the discharge of fireworks, but the fireworks caused by the discharge of fireworks burns, explosion injuries and even fires are still numerous. Therefore, at the close of the year, we still need to remind everyone to pay attention to safety. In short, as long as we focus on prevention, and even if an accident occurs can take the right measures, winter burns can be completely avoided or reduced.
