Does bronchiectasis have the same life expectancy as a normal person?

The life expectancy of some bronchiectasis patients is different from normal people. The life expectancy of bronchiectasis patients is related to the age of onset, the extent of the disease, and the presence or absence of underlying diseases.

1. Age of onset: children with bronchiectasis mostly have bronchial cystic fibrosis and have a shorter life expectancy than normal people.

2. Degree of disease: the life expectancy of adults with mild bronchiectasis is not much different from that of normal people, but the quality of life is poorer, and the life expectancy of some patients with severe bronchiectasis combined with serious complications such as hemoptysis will be affected by respiratory asphyxia.

3. With or without underlying diseases: with systemic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, heart and lung transplantation and HIV infection bronchiectasis patients, later combined with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, respiratory failure, will also affect the life expectancy.

The length of life of patients with bronchiectasis may also be related to other factors, and should be actively and timely standardized treatment, usually pay attention to prevention and control, so as not to affect the life expectancy and quality of life.
