Braces for patients with receding jaws can be useful for some patients. For patients with more severe retraction, braces are less effective. Functional mandibular retraction can be improved by wearing a maxillary removable appliance with planar guides. For people with mandibular retrusion due to narrow maxillary arches, either a spring-loaded, removable appliance can be used, or a fixed appliance can be chosen. For patients with severe mandibular retrusion, orthognathic surgery or chinoplasty may be required to improve the condition, as braces alone are not effective. If the patient has a retracted jaw with a protruding upper jaw, the patient must be treated by surgery, together with orthodontics. It is recommended that patients with receding jaws go to the hospital for a checkup to determine the cause of the problem, and then wear braces under the correct operation of the doctor for treatment.
