From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, low sperm motility is mainly attributed to deficiency of the liver and kidneys (weak functions of the liver and kidneys), so Chinese medicines that nourish the liver and kidneys, benefit the essence and fill in the marrow, such as He Shouwu (何首乌), and Shuidi Huang (熟地黄), etc., should consult with a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner to identify the symptoms of the disease, and follow the doctor’s prescription. 1. Radix Polygoni Multiflori: Slightly warm, bitter and astringent in flavor, it enters the liver and kidney meridians. It has the function of tonifying the liver and kidneys, benefiting essence and blood, and can be used for symptoms such as premature graying of the beard and hair, dizziness, tinnitus, and lumbar and knee soreness (a feeling of soreness and weakness of the waist and knees) caused by deficiency of the liver and kidneys (weakness of the liver and kidneys) and deficiency of essence and blood. 2. Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata (熟地黄): sweet and slightly warm in flavor, enters the liver and kidney meridians. It has the effect of tonifying blood and nourishing Yin, benefiting essence and filling in marrow, treating soreness and weakness of waist and knees caused by insufficiency of liver and kidney, palpitation (rapid heartbeat, often accompanied by panic), palpitations (rapid heartbeat, panic), night sweating (abnormal sweating after falling asleep, sweating stops after waking up), spermatorrhea, and so on. When low sperm motility is suspected or diagnosed, one should not blindly use traditional Chinese medicine on one’s own, but needs to be treated by a professional Chinese medicine practitioner after identifying the symptoms, so as to avoid delaying the condition.
