Intractable diarrhea may be associated with cervical spondylosis

The manifestations of cervical spondylosis are complex and varied, among which neck pain and shoulder and arm numbness are common symptoms of cervical spondylosis and are easily recognized by both doctors and patients, while some cervical spondylosis does not have obvious symptoms of neck pain or shoulder and arm numbness, but manifests as symptoms of internal organs, among which diarrhea may be caused by cervical spondylosis. Diarrhea caused by cervical spondylosis has its clinical characteristics: (1) it is mostly characterized by paroxysmal abdominal pain and diarrhea, which is aggravated before stool and relieved after stool; yellow soft and thin stool, no mucus and pus blood, no undigested food, no fever and posterior urgency; (2) X-ray examination of cervical spine: there are changes in cervical curvature, osteophytes, joint displacement, etc.; the mechanism of diarrhea caused by cervical spondylosis is: displacement of cervical vertebrae and soft tissue trauma, which stimulates or compresses the vertebral artery or sympathetic nerve and causes diarrhea. The mechanism of diarrhea caused by cervical spondylosis is as follows: the displacement of cervical vertebrae and soft tissue trauma stimulates or compresses the vertebral artery or sympathetic nerve and vasospasm occurs, which leads to insufficient blood supply to the basilar artery and secondary hypothalamic ischemia, which reflexively stimulates the preoptic and supraoptic areas (parasympathetic nerve center) and causes changes in the regulatory system of the brain-gut axis, resulting in dysfunction of the visceral nerves and enhanced peristalsis and secretion of gastric juice, intestinal juice, bile and pancreatic juice, thus leading to diarrhea.
