What to do if you get a fly in your ear

If you get a fly in your ear, you can remove it by shining a light at the opening of the ear canal to draw it out, or by dropping an oil solution in the ear canal to kill the fly. If you are unable to handle it by yourself, then it is recommended to go to the hospital in time and take it out with the assistance of the doctor.
1. Lighting the ear canal opening: If the fly is small, utilize the fly’s phototropism and place a light source in the ear canal opening in a dark environment to attract the fly, and observe whether the fly crawls out.
2. Remove the fly after killing it: you can use oil (such as sesame oil, rapeseed oil, olive oil, etc.), alcohol and other anesthetics to drop into the ear canal to limit the fly’s activities, so that the fly will be anesthetized, asphyxiated, or drowned, and then pour out the oil and other anesthetics from the ear canal to observe whether there is any fly carcasses flowing out.
3. If none of the above methods are effective, you should go to the ear, nose and throat of the hospital, with the assistance of a doctor to remove it. You can use alcohol or lidocaine and other drugs to anesthetize it, and then remove it under the otoscope.
If you have a fly in your ear, you should stay calm, limit the fly’s activities, remove it as soon as possible, and do not dig the ear canal to avoid damaging the eardrum and other ear structures; if you still feel uncomfortable after removing the fly, you should go to the local hospital.
