Does dietary therapy for cirrhosis of the liver work

Cirrhosis diet cannot cure the disease, but it is good for the patient’s body and can prevent related complications. Cirrhosis patients diet should pay attention to abstain from alcohol, should be high protein, low fat diet, should also be more vitamin supplementation, in addition, if the patient has upper gastrointestinal bleeding and other complications, the diet should also be adjusted accordingly. Patients with cirrhosis should abstain from alcohol, red wine, white wine, beer, fruit wine and other kinds of alcoholic beverages should not drink. Patients with cirrhosis should not eat high fat and high cholesterol content food, such as fatty meat, animal offal, fried food and so on, because of the decrease of bile secretion. Patients with cirrhosis have decreased ability of liver to synthesize proteins, so they need to supplement high protein foods, such as milk, eggs, lean meat, beef, mutton, fish, shrimp and so on. Patients with cirrhosis should also eat more vegetables and fruits, such as celery, bok choy, bok choy, broccoli, apples, bananas, oranges, kiwi and so on, to supplement vitamins, and to keep the bowel movement smooth. If cirrhosis is accompanied by complications of esophagogastric fundic varices, soft and rotten food should be eaten to prevent upper gastrointestinal bleeding; if complications of upper gastrointestinal bleeding have already occurred, fasting should be done; if accompanied by ascites, salt intake should be restricted; and if hepatic encephalopathy is concurrent, a high protein diet should be restricted.
