What to do if your baby has a foreign body in his ear

If there is a foreign body inside the baby’s ear, parents should not randomly pick the child’s ear if the child is relatively small and cannot cooperate. Once the child moves around, it may cause the mucous membrane of the ear canal to break down and even perforate the eardrum. It is best to take the child to a hospital ENT department for further examination. The doctor will look at the foreign body under the direct view of the endoscope to see what it is, where it is located, and whether it can be removed. If the foreign body is small and shallow, it can be removed with a gun-like forceps, but if it is deep and large, it is often necessary to remove the foreign body from the child’s ear under general anesthesia to avoid damaging the skin of the ear canal or the eardrum during the operation, which may cause some damage to the child.
