Creatinine is categorized into blood creatinine and urine creatinine, which can be determined by checking blood or urine, and blood creatinine is used to assess kidney function in clinical practice.
The method of testing creatinine by drawing blood from a vein is called blood creatinine. The normal value of blood creatinine in China is between 53 and 106 μmol/L for men, and between 44 and 97 μmol/L for women, with slight variations in the reference range of each hospital. In order to ensure the accuracy of the test results, before the test should be avoided late at night, drinking alcohol, excessive exercise, to maintain a fasting 6 to 8 hours before the test.
The general normal range of urinary creatinine is 7000~18000μmol/24h for adult men and 5300~16000μmol/24h for adult women.
Urine creatinine is affected by many factors, such as drinking less water, sweating a lot, and urine concentration will lead to higher urine creatinine, on the contrary, drinking more water and sweating less will make urine creatinine lower. Therefore, urine creatinine cannot reflect the real situation of kidney function.
If creatinine test is needed, we suggest patients to visit the hospital in advance, understand the preparation needed for creatinine test under the doctor’s guidance, and follow the doctor’s instructions to improve the test to ensure the accuracy of the test results.
