Hypertrophy of the tongue may be a symptom of allergy, tongue trauma, mucosal disease, vascular malformation or tumor, etc. It is recommended to go to the hospital for timely examination and treatment.
1. Contact with allergic foods or drugs may result in neurovascular edema of the tongue, which manifests as dilated and hypertrophied blood vessels of the tongue.
2. The tongue may be congested, swollen and enlarged after trauma.
3. Tongue mucosal diseases may have tongue hypertrophy, such as: tongue amyloidosis, lingual inflammation and so on.
4. Tongue vascular malformations such as lingual venous malformations and lymphatic malformations may cause tongue hypertrophy.
5. Tongue tumors may cause hypertrophy of the tongue due to a mass on the surface of the tongue.
