”Oral candidiasis is a common infectious disease of the oral mucosa. Similar to gray nails and ringworm, it is caused by Candida infection. Candida is widely present in nature, and about 20% of normal human mouth can be detected with Candida. Normally, Candida does not cause disease, but only when the body’s resistance is reduced, the local environment of the oral cavity can lead to the occurrence of infection. Older people and newborns are susceptible to oral Candida infection. In addition, patients who wear movable dentures, have diabetes, anemia, immunodeficiency and other systemic diseases; patients who take immunosuppressant or glucocorticoid drugs for a long time, apply antibiotics in large quantities for a short period of time and patients who suffer from dry syndrome, oral lichen planus and other diseases are prone to oral candidiasis infection. ”Oral candidiasis” can be manifested as: white curd-like patches similar to milk skin, congestion and redness of oral mucosa, atrophy of the papillae on the back of the tongue, and chapped, congested or wet white corners of the mouth. Patients may have symptoms such as dry mouth, painful eating of irritating foods, loss or disappearance of taste sensation or a distinct burning sensation. The diagnosis of “oral candidiasis” first requires the doctor to give a preliminary judgment according to the oral clinical manifestations, and then directly observe under the microscope or take saliva culture and other methods to clarify the diagnosis. The treatment of “oral candidiasis” is usually a course of treatment in 2-4 weeks, but in case of systemic diseases combined with Candida infection, the treatment time may be extended and recurrent infections may occur. Therefore, it is necessary to follow the doctor’s prescription to ensure sufficient treatment time and correct medication method, while actively cooperating with the treatment of systemic diseases. Patients with denture should pay attention to good denture cleaning: remove the denture every night before going to bed, brush the front and back of the denture in water with a toothbrush, then soak the denture in 3% sodium bicarbonate solution, remove it the next day and rinse it briefly with water before wearing it into the mouth. Remember to replace the soaked denture solution daily and do not reuse it.
