Acid reflux belongs to the Chinese medicine category of acid vomiting and acid swallowing (swallowing the acid in the stomach that rushes up to the mouth and throat), and commonly used scriptures for clinical treatment include Zuo Jin Wan and Xiang Sha Liu Jun Zi Tang.
1. Zuo Jin Wan (Zuo Jin Wan) is from Dan Xi Xin Fa (The Heart Method of Dan Xi). The formula consists of two herbs, Huang Lian (Yellow Lutein) and Wu Zhu Zi (Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum), and is mainly used for the treatment of acid swallowing accompanied by reduced appetite, bitter taste in the mouth, nausea, and vomiting, etc., as a result of liver-fire that violates the stomach, such as distension and pain in the chest, ribs, and stomach and epigastrium, as well as noisiness and stuffiness in the stomach, which is similar to the sensation of hunger, emptiness, and burning.

2. Xiang Sha Liu Jun Zi Tang is based on Si Jun Zi Tang, with the addition of Muxiang and Sha Ren to move qi and regulate qi, and Chen Pi and Bian Xia to regulate qi and harmonize the stomach. The whole formula is used to improve acid swallowing in qi stagnation in the stomach and epigastrium, accompanied by qi deficiency manifestations, such as low food intake and stagnation (lack of appetite, decreased food intake), poor transportation and digestion of the spleen and stomach, and distension of the epigastrium and the abdomen (gastric epigastric region and the stomach and abdomen), etc. The adverse effects and contraindications are not clear at present.
