How long a person can live after having a stent put in for coronary atherosclerosis depends on the patient’s own age as well as his/her physical condition. After implantation of a stent, the narrowed coronary arteries will remain open again, the blood supply to the heart muscle will be significantly improved, and the function of the heart will further improve. If the patient is young and in good physical condition, without serious life-threatening diseases, he or she is likely to survive for ten or several decades after coronary atherosclerosis stenting and greatly improve the patient’s quality of life. If the patient is elderly or has other serious chronic diseases, the survival time is uncertain. It is recommended that patients with coronary atherosclerosis have their condition evaluated by a physician before choosing to have a stent placed, and that they choose an appropriate treatment plan. After placement, medications should be taken as prescribed to maximize life expectancy.
