How to Relieve Urinary Stone Pain in the Elderly

Painful urinary stones in the elderly can be relieved by medication, along with aggressive lithotripsy. Commonly used medications include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g., diclofenac, indomethacin), opioid analgesics (e.g., morphine), and antispasmodics (e.g., scopolamine), which can relieve the symptoms of pain. Medications commonly used for stone removal include tamsulosin, which relaxes the smooth muscle of the lower ureter. Indomethacin suppositories anal plugs are mainly used to reduce the edema of the ureter and promote stone expulsion. If the stones are large, surgical treatment can be performed, such as extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, ureteral flexible mirror lithotripsy lithotripsy, ureteroscopy lithotripsy, percutaneous nephrolithotripsy and so on. However, it should be noted that the appropriate medication must be chosen under the guidance of the doctor, and not blindly abusing the medication.
