The types of spots can be distinguished according to the cause of formation and the color of the spots.
Most of the spots are due to heredity, but they may also be caused by endocrine disorders, slow metabolism, chronic diseases, irregular life and work, excessive exposure to ultraviolet rays, radiation, cosmetics, and are of various types and colors, which need to be treated symptomatically.
1. Causes: Spots may be caused by genetic factors, such as freckles, birthmarks and so on. It may also be caused by infection or irritation leading to dilation of blood vessels in the dermis to form spots, called inflammatory hyperpigmentation spots.
In addition, aging of the skin and precipitation of some pigmented substances such as lipofuscin in the epidermal cells can form age spots, i.e. seborrheic keratosis. Chloasma can be formed by sunlight and ultraviolet stimulation or hormone secretion abnormality, which needs to be treated according to the cause.
2. Color of spots: Dark brown or light brown spots are usually melasma, mostly on the back of nose and both cheeks, and may also be age spots and freckles. White spots may be non-pigmented nevi, hypopigmented spots or white furfur. Black spots may be freckles or seborrheic keratoses. Reddish spots are usually nevus erythematosus, hemangioma, etc.
