A brace is recommended for 4-6 weeks after lumbar spine fracture surgery and can be gradually removed after 4-6 weeks when the patient’s lumbar pain subsides. Minimally invasive surgery of the lumbar spine refers to vertebroplasty or minimally invasive internal fixation of the pedicle rods, and regardless of the minimally invasive surgical approach, patients are advised to wear a brace for 4-6 weeks after surgery. The main purpose of wearing a brace is to reduce the load on the lumbar spine. By wearing a brace, the weight of the upper body is transmitted through the rib cage, brace, and pelvic direction, thus reducing the load on the injured lumbar vertebrae. In addition, the lumbar brace increases the stability of the lumbar spine and limits the bending activities of the lumbar region to avoid secondary injury to the lumbar spine. Some traditional braces add an airbag or heating function to promote blood circulation to further relieve the patient’s symptoms. Therefore, it is recommended that patients wear the brace for 4-6 weeks after surgery. After 6 weeks, the fracture has healed to varying degrees and the soft tissues have grown well enough to gradually eliminate the brace.
