ITP is an abbreviation for immune thrombocytopenic purpura, a group of bleeding disorders caused by excessive immune-mediated platelet destruction, characterized by extensive skin and visceral bleeding, thrombocytopenia, impaired maturation of bone marrow megakaryocytes, shortened platelet survival time and the appearance of platelet membrane glycoprotein-specific autoantibodies. The incidence of ITP is similar in men and women, with a higher incidence in women of childbearing age than in men of the same age. After the diagnosis of ITP, the most common treatment is hormone therapy, and also the application of thrombopoietin therapy.
