Is a mildly high total bilirubin serious?

Slightly high total bilirubin is not serious if there are no other signs of abnormality. However, it needs to be reviewed or the cause of the elevation found.
Measurement of total bilirubin helps to determine the degree and type of jaundice. Increases are seen in jaundice from a variety of causes, and are divided into physiologic and pathologic increases. Physiological increases are seen in newborns and pregnant women; pathological increases are seen in primary biliary cirrhosis, acute jaundice, viral hepatitis, hemolytic jaundice, and cholelithiasis.
A slight increase in total bilirubin is not serious on its own, but requires regular checkups or clarification of the cause of the increase to determine the severity of the increase in combination with the cause of the disease.
If you have a slight increase in total bilirubin, it is recommended that you consult your doctor and undergo a complete examination to determine the cause of the increase.
