Hypothyroidism causes eye discomfort, mainly because hypothyroidism causes mucous edema, which involves the eye and causes eyelid edema, leading to eye discomfort. Hypothyroidism is a hypometabolic syndrome caused by thyroxine resistance or hypothyroidism due to various reasons. Its pathology is characterized by the accumulation of mucopolysaccharides in the skin and tissues, and its main manifestation is mucous edema. The edema may involve the eyelid area, causing eyelid edema, which can lead to eye discomfort. Patients with hypothyroidism may experience fatigue, slowness of movement, lethargy, significant memory loss and poor concentration, abnormal coldness, lack of sweating and lower than normal body temperature due to poor peripheral blood circulation and decreased energy production.
