Gui Zhi Gan Cao Long Bone Oyster Soup is from “Treatise on Typhoid Fever”, which is effective in warming the heart yang, tranquilizing the mind and settling palpitations. It is mainly used in treating heart-yang deficiency and restlessness of the mind, which is characterized by restlessness, palpitation, insomnia, stuffiness in the heart and chest, coldness, shortness of breath, spontaneous sweating (involuntary sweating during the daytime, aggravated by sweating when there is a slight movement), and paleness of the face.
This formula is composed of Gui Zhi, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Oyster and Dragon Bone, in which Gui Zhi warms and invigorates the heart yang, warms and circulates the blood veins so as to smooth the blood flow; Dragon Bone and Oyster calm the mind and settle palpitation; and Glycyrrhiza glabra harmonizes all medicines (harmonizes the properties of different traditional Chinese medicines), and also replenishes the heart qi and strengthens the spleen qi.
Adverse effects and contraindications of this formula are not known. Chinese medicines should be used after diagnosis by a TCM practitioner, and self-medication should be avoided to avoid adverse effects.
