What is spinal deformity and scoliosis?

1.What is spinal deformity? In layman’s terms, spinal deformity is a person’s spine is crooked, it includes a variety of types, if the left and right direction is crooked, it is called scoliosis; if the spine is crooked before and after the growth of the spine, it is called anterior spinal convexity or kyphosis, kyphosis is more common, is what the people call the “pot”, “back of the day “and so on. 2, what is called scoliosis? The normal human spine is straight from the back, that is, from the occipital tuberosity to the sacral spine of all spinal spines into a straight line, if a segment or segments of the spine bends to the side, to the left or right deviates from this axis, that is called scoliosis. There are many types of scoliosis, and the most common is idiopathic scoliosis. There are three types of idiopathic scoliosis, scoliosis found at the age of 0-3 years old is called infant type; 3-10 years old is the early childhood type; after the age of 10 years old scoliosis is called adolescent type. In particular, the adolescent type is the most common, meaning that most patients develop scoliosis after the age of 10. The younger the age of scoliosis, the more serious the deformity, to adolescence, due to accelerated bone development, the deformity develops quickly, so it must be detected early and treated in a timely manner. 3, what are the hazards of spinal deformity? Because scoliosis patients do not hurt, no symptoms, and children, if parents do not pay much attention to the growth and development of children, often difficult to detect early, the older the more obvious, and easier to be found when the deformity has been very serious, it is too late, the best time for treatment has been missed. Spinal deformities not only infringe on the spine, thorax, ribs, pelvis, and even the lower limbs may be of unequal length, with one high and one low shoulder, and hunchback deformity. In addition to the appearance of deformity, it can also cause serious psychological disorders in patients, and more importantly, affect the function of the lungs, heart displacement, impaired cardiac function, and even spinal cord deformity, and in severe cases, it can cause muscle atrophy of the lower limbs, hyperalgesia, and even paraplegia. Therefore, it is extremely harmful to the physical and mental health of adolescents. 4.How to detect spinal deformity early? To prevent and treat scoliosis must be detected early in order to prevent and treat it early. In many developed countries, the screening of school-age children in elementary school is started, and once the suspected patients are found, timely measures are taken. Due to the large population and poor medical conditions in China, it is not yet possible to screen all primary and secondary school students, which requires parents to pay attention to the developmental process of their children, and to go to the hospital as soon as a suspected spinal deformity is detected. At the same time, hospital doctors are required to have the screening methods to detect early scoliosis, and early detection can avoid many unnecessary surgical treatments. So how can spinal deformities be detected early? This requires parents to spend more energy to carefully observe their children: (1) Note whether the two shoulders are high on one side? (2) Notice whether the two scapulae are high on one side? (3) Notice if the two scapulae are high on one side after bending over. Is it like a razor? (4) If it is a girl, should pay attention to whether the breasts are developed and whether both sides are the same size? (5) Is the spine crooked? Take a finger on the child’s back and slide it down along the spinous process, if the track is not straight, scoliosis should be suspected? (6) Is there a skin wrinkle at the waist? 5.What should I do if I suspect that my child has a spinal deformity? Usually, using the above method, parents can initially determine if there is a spinal deformity. Once a child is suspected of having a spinal deformity, a full frontal and lateral X-ray of the spine in a standing position should be taken at the hospital. If the scoliosis is greater than 10 degrees as measured on the X-ray, the diagnosis is scoliosis.
