For patients with urticaria, topical medications can indeed be used to provide relief from itchy skin sensations as well as to control attacks of wind-like tissues. Commonly applied topical medications, such as glyburide lotion, glucocorticoid ointment, and some herbs. Glucocorticoid ointments are available such as dexamethasone ointment and tretinoin ointment. However, for urticaria flare-ups, it is not the topically applied medications that patients are advised to apply; topically applied medications can be used as a complementary treatment option. Patients are first advised to apply antihistamines. Patients can first take oral loratadine, cetirizine, paracetamol, etc. to relieve the intense itching sensation, and the allergic inflammatory skin reaction. Patients with urticaria who are more severe need intravenous applications, like glucocorticoids, calcium gluconate and other drugs for control.
