Astigmatism in children is usually physiological and is mainly due to congenital irregularities in the development of the cornea. However, astigmatism from this cause is usually not very large, rarely exceeding 400 degrees, and does not change with age. Treatment for this condition depends on the degree of astigmatism. If the astigmatism is large, for example, more than 200 degrees, it will have a more significant impact on the child’s naked eye vision, so it is generally recommended that glasses are needed early, and the younger the child is, the higher the need for glasses. The younger the child is, the higher the need for glasses. If glasses are not worn, low naked eye vision may even lead to the formation of amblyopia. However, if the astigmatism is not particularly high, such as 25 or 50 degrees, it will not affect the child’s vision and usually does not need to be treated, and regular vision checkups for the child will be fine.
