How long can you live with oral cancer?

The survival time of oral cancer patients cannot be generalized, but is mainly related to the severity of the disease and treatment, and should be analyzed on a case-by-case basis. Clinically, oral cancer can be classified into early, middle and late stages according to the severity of the disease. If the patient is in early stage of oral cancer, after a series of treatments such as surgery, the patient can generally survive for more than 5 years, and if there is no recurrence or metastasis, the patient can also survive for a long time. If the patient is already in the middle or late stage when clearly diagnosed, it indicates that the patient’s condition is more serious, the prognosis is worse and the survival period is relatively shortened. However, after radiotherapy, targeted therapy and other treatments, the survival period of patients can generally be extended accordingly, and the specific extension varies from person to person. If the patient has a negative attitude and does not actively cooperate with the treatment, the survival time of patients in the middle and late stages may only be a few months. Therefore, it is recommended that patients with oral cancer should go to the medical oncology department of regular hospitals in a timely manner and actively undergo treatment, while ensuring an optimistic state of mind, which can help improve the quality of survival and prolong the survival period. Patients may have poor appetite during the treatment period, so they can eat appropriate amount of nutritious and easily digestible foods that meet their taste to ensure nutritional intake and promote recovery.
