Infant hernia generally refers to inguinal hernia. How many days you need to stay in the hospital for infant hernia surgery varies from person to person, and mainly depends on the surgical procedure and postoperative recovery. 3-7 days of hospitalization is usually required, but the hospitalization time will be extended if there is postoperative infection.
The main surgical options for infant hernias are laparoscopically assisted high hernia sac ligation (minimally invasive surgery) and traditional high hernia sac ligation. If minimally invasive surgery is used, the surgical incision is smaller, there are fewer post-operative complications, there is little impact on the child’s mobility, and the child can usually be discharged after about 3 days of hospitalization.
Infant hernias are usually discharged in about 7 days if traditional surgery is used with a relatively large incision. If there is bleeding from the incision or postoperative infection, the hospitalization time will be relatively longer.
After infant hernia surgery, parents should cooperate with the doctor to take good care of their infants and strictly observe the post-operative precautions.
