Vitiligo is a clinically manifested, acquired chronic depigmentation disease with white spots. The age of onset varies, especially in young people, and there are no racial or gender differences. Vitiligo has some heritability but is not contagious. Positive family history of patients is reported by foreign authors ranging from 18.75%-38%. Our statistics, with 4.9%-15.6% of patients having the same disease in their family, are lower than those reported abroad. In monozygotic twins, both can be present. Therefore, it has been proposed that vitiligo may be an autosomal dominant disorder accompanied by different epizootic rates.
