How to treat left trigeminal nerve pain

Left trigeminal nerve pain is considered to be caused by primary trigeminal neuralgia or secondary trigeminal neuralgia (such as brainstem infarction, etc.), and the treatment modalities are different for different etiologies, which can be treated by medication, surgery, and other means.
1. Primary trigeminal neuralgia: associated with arterial ectasia or distortion, compression of the semilunar ganglion and other factors, the patient may consciously feel a sudden and severe pain in the left trigeminal innervation area, accompanied by twitching of the left side of the facial muscles.
Carbamazepine, gabapentin, phenytoin sodium and other drugs can be used as prescribed by the doctor, and radiofrequency thermo-coagulation or microvascular decompression surgery can be applied when drug treatment is ineffective.
2. Secondary trigeminal neuralgia: such as brainstem infarction, which is caused by the sclerosis and spasm of vertebrobasilar artery and its branch vessels, resulting in stenosis and occlusion of the corresponding arterial vessels, with clinical manifestations such as hemiplegia, impaired consciousness, etc., and a few patients will also have left-sided trigeminal neuralgia.
Patients should pay attention to bed rest, and follow the doctor’s instructions to use heparin, aspirin, mannitol and other drugs to relieve the symptoms, if necessary, feasible interventional therapy or surgical treatment.
There are many other causes of left-sided trigeminal neuralgia, it is recommended to go to the hospital in a timely manner, to clarify the cause of the disease, and then receive treatment as soon as possible.
