Citrus aurantium and Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae are effective in benefiting qi and strengthening the spleen (regulating the qi of the spleen and stomach), subduing lumps and dispersing knots (eliminating lumps in the body), inducing diuresis and stopping sweating, and tranquilizing the fetus. However, Chinese herbal medicines work mainly through decoction, and drinking them in water may affect their efficacy due to the limited release of active ingredients.
Citrus aurantium is warm in nature, bitter, pungent and sour in flavor, and belongs to the spleen and stomach meridians. It is mainly used for the treatment of food and diet stagnation and internal stagnation, plumpness (stomach fullness and discomfort), distension and pain, diarrhea and dysentery (discomfort in the lower abdomen, wanting to defecate very much, and a feeling of incomplete defecation after defecation), inability to pass stools, gastric ptosis, prolapsed anus, uterine prolapse, and so on.
Atractylodes macrocephala is warm in nature, bitter and sweet in taste, and belongs to the spleen and stomach meridians. Its main effects are benefiting qi and strengthening the spleen, drying dampness and inducing diuresis (drying dampness and reducing water-dampness in the body), stopping sweating and tranquilizing the fetus, and is mainly used in the treatment of deficiency of the spleen with little appetite, bloating and diarrhea, phlegm (pathological product formed by impaired metabolism of water and liquid), dizziness and palpitations (accelerated heartbeat often accompanied by heartburn), edema, and restlessness of the fetus.
There is no contraindication to the use of Citrus Aurantium and Atractylodes Macrocephalae, and the combination of the two has the effect of benefiting the qi and strengthening the spleen, eliminating plaques and dispersing lumps and knots. It is difficult to utilize the full efficacy of Chinese medicines in water, and often fails to achieve the efficacy of treating diseases.
If there is a need for medication, it is recommended to consult a professional Chinese medicine practitioner and choose to use the medication when the evidence is clear, rather than blindly purchasing the medication, so as to avoid the medication not being right for the patient and affecting the efficacy.
