First-degree burns Typical cause: sunburn No scar formation after the injury. The epidermis is flushed and there is local burning pain, which gradually relieves in about 3 days. About 5 to 7 days to heal, local flaking. Shallow second-degree burns Typical cause: boiling water burns The incidence of scarring is 4 to 19% with exudation of body fluids. The area is light reddish brown and may present blisters. The area is sensitive to irritation and pain is evident. Healing is usually obtained after 1 to 2 weeks. There is usually a pigmentation change after healing. Deep second-degree burns Typical cause: hot oil burns Scarring rate 50-83% Local area is slightly pale, local area is dull to stimulation, pain is not very obvious. It usually takes about 3 weeks to heal. Third-degree burn (scalding) Typical causes: hot water bag, exhaust pipe Almost certainly occurring scar growth Scalding local pale or black dry crust, stimulation painless, greater chance of infection. Surgery is usually required to close the wound. Special reminder: Even experienced physicians cannot determine the depth of burn wounds with 100% accuracy. Our department has a trauma depth diagnostic instrument, which can accurately determine the depth.
