Can an overdose of antihypertensive drugs kill you?

An overdose of antihypertensive drugs may cause death due to hypotension. Antihypertensive drugs, at present, mainly include diuretics, calcium channel blockers, beta receptor antagonists, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, and angiotensin II receptor antagonists. All of these drugs have the effect of lowering blood pressure, and if they are used in excess, they may cause blood pressure to drop too much and trigger hypotension. And when blood pressure drops sharply and hypotension occurs, it will lead to the heart, brain, kidneys and other important organs not getting enough blood perfusion, which will easily trigger the function of these organs to drop sharply. Especially the heart and brain, once severe ischemia and hypoxia, it may trigger irreversible damage or even death. Therefore, no matter what kind of drugs should be used in strict compliance with the doctor’s instructions, and should not be reduced, increased or changed without authorization.
