Can an MRI detect cerebral palsy?

An MRI can assist in the diagnosis of cerebral palsy, and whether or not a patient has cerebral palsy is primarily based on symptoms. Cerebral palsy typically presents with motor and speech symptoms, where the patient has difficulty moving and has high muscle tone in the limbs. In addition, symptoms such as slurred speech are present. Cerebral palsy can be evaluated by MRI to assess the severity of the condition, but it cannot be presumed to be cerebral palsy by what is shown on the MRI; cerebral palsy must be decided based on clinical symptoms. Cerebral palsy should also be treated promptly and regularly, and drugs that nourish the nerves can be used. The earlier the child is treated for cerebral palsy, the better the outcome.
